Girls With Power

Dreaming about the future is invigorating, but seeing those dreams come to life in front of your eyes is even better. That same vision is what sparked the idea for our Girls With Power Vision Board Workshop. A group of children and teenagers, from as young as six to as old as seventeen years old, brought their aspirations and goals to South County Regional Library to create their own vision boards.
We kicked off the workshop with a ten-minute presentation explaining what a vision board is and how it can help us visualize our dreams. We discussed goal-setting in all its aspects, including academic, professional, personal, and passion-driven. We encouraged everyone to take a moment to self reflect, asking questions like: What excites you? Where do you want to grow? Who inspires you? What impact do you want to make? The answers to these questions helped each student decide a theme for their board, turning their reflections and thoughts into something tangible.
From there, we introduced the creative part. Tables were flowing with magazines, colorful paper, glitter glue, markers, stickers—anything and everything to bring those visions to life. Participants flipped through magazines, cutting out words, quotes, and images that were inspiring to them. Music played, snacks were shared, and the room filled with laughter and thoughtful conversations. We even held a raffle where the winner got to take home a $20 Target gift card!

One of the most intriguing parts of the day was seeing how every age approached the project differently. Our youngest participants filled their boards with bright colors and gleaming images, while older participants were more intentional, choosing words and pictures that reflected the certain career they wanted to pursue or their life goals. With the help of Art for Hearts, our partner organization that teaches art lessons to support heart disease research, everyone had the opportunity to add their own creativity and innovation to their boards.
What stood out most was seeing everyone’s goals and dreams displayed so vividly. These vision boards are powerful and personal expressions of where each person sees their future and the direction they hope to take.
